GS1100L Header Question

I have a 1980 GS1100L. It came with a 4 into 1 exhaust fitted. It also came with the stock 4 into 2 pipes complete.

I would like to put the original pipes back on it.

The question I have is that on the 2 center headers, the flanges are able to slide off the end of the header. They seem to big to clamp the flange of the header. is that normal?

That is normal. There are also 4 half circle plates that go between the flange and the exhaust port. They will take up the slack.
