All of the ones I have tried hit the top of the motor. Made my own plate and ran a straight hose with a line pinch. crude but effective. trying to get something a little more sanitary.Current Rides: 82 GS1100E, 00 Triumph 955 Speed Triple:twistedevil:, 03 Kawasaki ZRX1200, 01 Honda GL1800, '15 Kawasaki 1000 Versys

Why not remove the lower part of the hole for the tank mounting hardware so it is fully open at the bottom and simply raise the rear of the tank a bit and then tighten down the bolt.
You will also need to remove the metal center bushing and maybe add a fender washer here or there so the bolt will actually tighten against the mount fully.
That bushing allows the bolt to tighten up, but yet allows the rear of the tank to float a bit on some models.
So basically youll have an open ended U shaped tang instead of the closed hole ..follow me??Last edited by chuck hahn; 03-01-2013, 02:17 PM.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Thanks Chuck for thinking out of the circle! I had removed and raised the original mount. When I used some non-standard cushions I had around and pulled it up while tightening, I gained a lot of clearance. I will probably need a little more, but that should be easier to find.Current Rides: 82 GS1100E, 00 Triumph 955 Speed Triple:twistedevil:, 03 Kawasaki ZRX1200, 01 Honda GL1800, '15 Kawasaki 1000 Versys

To add to the stock frame cushion, you can use mud flap rubber and glue them together with contact cement. Just be sure to have the add on piece lined up as you apply it to the original cushion. That contact cement doesnt give up the ghost easily trying to seperate the parts.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Heres another way to skin the cat and not cut on the tank...
Remove the rubber piece with the centering plug part that centers it in the mount hole and replace it with just some stacked up rubber washers between the tank and the frame mount. Now the tank can be lifted the full range of the hole and you wont have to cut the bottom of the moun ting hole out..
Easy modification and it wont damage the actual tank itself!!
Of course add the extra thickness required on top of the frame cushion as needed for the tank to rest on it comfortably.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
