    Frustrated

I got my exchange from George and here is what I ended up with:

If you don't see it - the petcock is hitting the frame holding the tank up.

Here is a summary of $100 spent:

That is, apparently, an '82 petcock from my '83 450L, the aftermarket replacement ($50 + $20 exchange), and also the $30 rebuild kit that didn't fit. I think that rebuild kit may be for the aftermarket petcock.

So I guess now I need to get a spacer to lower the petcock.

This is one time I really wish I had just gone to the dealer.

Perhaps a picture of the old part being sent to whoever one is getting a new part from would be a way to insure one does not end up with the wrong part....

and 20 bucks to exchange one part for another...well that bites as well, is that like a restocking fee ?

not one of the better ways of trying to get a part, and you still don't have the correct item....

That stinks! your petcock is way back on tank compared to mine. If you look at the george petcock, you'll see that the casting is able to have the fuel outlet face front or rear - the front side is plugged, but i don't know if lever positions would be reversed . I'll bet the vacuum connection could be removed and rotated 180 degrees to face forward and still work. Would it then clear frame????

          Happened To Me

Does that little plastic disk come out or do I leave it alone? I don't want to accidentally break it through stupidity.
I had the same thing happen to me...fuel leaked into the "primary airbox" (through the clear vacuum line which had a slit on the edge of the tube) and into the resevoir and down the spout/tube behind the clutch box.

Fortunately, I have a spare "T" and took the fuelcock off the unused tank. I cut 1/4 inch off the vacuum line and now my bike runs much leaner.

I was gonna get a replacement off Z1enterprises website that cost $50 but the spare one saved me some dough.

Two different petcocks for two different year bikes.
The old one is for a '80-'81 GS450L.

The new one is for a '82 GS450L.

If you do have a '82, you might just have an older tank.

Here's a shot of a '81 450L with your old petcock. Notice how it goes aft of the carb?

The site I got this from said it was an '82 GS450L, has your "newer" petcock on it. Notice how it goes ahead of the carb?

I am using a different tank; I could've sworn they were the same except for the lack of rust. I'll have another look tomorrow.

The tank I'm using is the same as the original and it looks like I have an '80 to '82 that was registered as an '83. That being said, the exchange I received from George is supposed to be for an '82; but it obviously won't work. I guess I'll just order the right one from Boulevard and try to sell what I have now.

                Thanks for all the help.

Your original petcock has the fuel and vacuum lines exiting to the left, your new petcock had them exiting to the right. Might that be the problem?
