Gas smell in oil???

Yeah, it's brand new but there's no way to see if it's regulating fuel without the clear vacuum tube. So maybe it's the carbs??? You rebuilt them, right? I'm not saying you did a bad job but if the problem persists, I'd re-evaluate the carbs.

Follow Agemax's advice and just ride...eventually it should sort itself out/the fuel should burn through after several rides.

Didn't mean to get you riled up! I'm just offering possibilities from my recent experience with my fuel leak.

Hell I got it set in the prime postion, because I have the slot set up and down...guess this is why i have gas in oil?

if it is a brand new tap it should not really matter, although it is generally bad practice to leave it on prime all the time.

saying that, some people do, and have no problems at all. even if the tap is good, if you leave it on prime and you have a worn or sticky float valve it will dump a tank full of gas on the floor overnight.......but not in your engine!

The IPB says the size of the hose is: 4.5 X 8.5.

I would suggest 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch since the sizing is metric.

Take your existing hose and goto Lowe's...I already tried AutoZone and all they had was the solid black hose.

I've had my 1980 GS550E for 5 years or something, and I always just figured the PO had lost or discarded the lever for my petcock!

Now, I find out there never was a lever!

This is great news.

With the prohibitive price of new petcock assemblies, and inexplicable lack of replacement levers, I had never tried to replace the "missing" lever, and just counted myself lucky that the petcock worked without it.

A big "Thank you," to everyone who's been part of this thread.

If the hose size is 4.5mm, why would you suggest 1/4 inch, or worse yet, 3/8 inch?

1/4 inch is 6.35mm, which is already way too big.

3/8 inch is 9.53mm, ... well, you should be getting the idea.

By the way, you probably won't find any clear hose at Lowe's or any other HOME supply store that is fuel-resistant.

If you want to know if your vacuum line is leaking, suck on it carefully. If you taste gas, it leaks.
