How to remove airbox boots
I am trying to replace the intake boot on my GS1100E airbox. There are metal rings on the inside that I really don't want to destroy. I can't seem to get anything that will push them back so I can remove the boot. So any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have look around the ring/band to find the gap in that ring/band (does not show in any of your pics.).
Pry one edge of the gap to lift up and over the other edge, so it overlaps it's self, so the ring/band can have a smaller diameter.
Maybe grab the edge with a pair of needle nose plyers to help twist it to be smaller diameter, then can turn it all sideways some, and pull it out, then can remove the boot.
Had me puzzled for a quite a while first time also.

So I will be destroying the band in only one then. are these bands required or can they be left out?

OEM boots for the 78' 1000 had the same thing, bent many a ring getting the boots out. Any new boots you order don't have the metal rings, they are so soft and supple they fit in nice and snug.Rob

Well I did just replace the intake boot and I did not destroy the metal ring. I pinched the old boot until I had some room on the ring I could get a needle nose pliers behind. I turned the pliers. This allowed me to put a u shaped bend in the ring. I got it out and put the new boot in and put the ring back in place and used a adjustable channel locks to re-round the ring and it worked perfectly. It took some time to get it back to nearly round but it looks good and I am sure the boot is sealed.

Just over $4 each at Boulevard Suzuki.
