Question about Berrman's Chem-Dip
I just cleaned my carb bodies with Berryman's Chem-Dip. I let each soak overnight, and rinsed off after taking out of the can. The carbs do look cleaner with the exception of all of the brass parts turning a brownish color. Has anyone else run into this? What is the best way to remove the brownish color? See pic below

The tarnishing on the brass parts is irrelevant. What matters is that they are absolutely clean. Shiny brass does not make them work any better, once assembled, everything in there is black for all practical purposes and you won't be looking at them.Last edited by OldVet66; 04-21-2013, 05:53 PM.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.

You do want to check that all holes and passages are clear, spray carb cleaner through them and blow them out with compressed air. Inspect the jets and insure there is nothing left in the holes. They do sell fairly soft toothbrush style stainless steel wire brushes that you could use for additional cleaning, but that would predominantly clean only the outside surfaces. It might be worthwhile for you to do that. If it is a film, the wire brush will take it off and it will be obvious what it is, but I suspect that even though it brightens it up a bit you will find it is a tarnish caused by chemical reaction with the dip.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.

Just my experience
Whe I did my carbs (last week) I dipped all the brass parts in the Berrymans seperately.
Anything aluminum I cleaned in an Ultrasonic cleaner in Simple Green & water solution. Everything came out like new..I even Ultrasoniced the brass jets after thay came out fo the chem dip..and then cleaned each hole with tiny wire pieces as well...
I wonder (?) if the combination of brass & aluminum in the chemical dip at the same time caused an interaction between 2 metals...?
