    Hi,


    I've got some really dirty carbs. The outside surfaces are badly discolored. I found a post on other web sites that suggest soda blasting is a good way to clean them.


    Have you used this method on your carbs?

    there are many different methods of cleaning carbs that we all use. soda blasting is one of them, along with dipping in carb cleaner(most popular),ultrasonic cleaning, vapor blasting or good old elbow grease.

    they all work well so it depends what services you have available local to you or plan on doing yourself

      Only on the outside of the bodies (They still need dipped, especially after blasting). Soda blasting will also clean the corrosion off of the small plated parts and brighten them significantly, but they will rust again after that. Plan to re-plate if you're going to clean those. I think Nessism has written about plating the choke linkages, etc.

        Never tried soda blasting but it seems like a good idea.

        I've glass bead blasted carbs before with good results. Remove all the plated parts, including butterfly springs and hardware, then mask off the various passages. Seems to me soda may save some masking time, but not sure how plating will hold up.

        And yes, I've replated the various tidbits before and it results in a really nice look afterwards.

          I've soda blasted many carbs, worked very well but like others have said you still need to dip them afterwards to clean the 'innards'. I use baking soda for carbs and washing soda for engines and tough things. I use a media blasting gun that attaches to my compressor and has a compartment for media.
