    83 gs450 header size?

I am looking at replacing the mufflers on my 83 GS450. I was thinking of going with a set from DCC. All the sets I see start at 1 3/4". What is the header size for bolt on slip on mufflers on the GS450?
If I need to get some sort of adaptor kit I can, I just am not sure what adaptor to purchase. Also If I am changing mufflers only should I have to rejet? What is everyones experiance with this?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Whether you need to re-jet or not depends on how free flowing the muffler is compared to what's on there now, so that's a hard one to answer unless someone has exactly the same setup.

Not sure on the stock header diameter sorry, trashed mine a long time ago coz they were buggered.

Thanks for the reply Pete. I was looking at the Emgo shorty exhaust. maybe someone will reply if they have used a similar setup.

I have those EMGO shorty mufflers and one end of 'em is 1 3/4 and the other end is 1 1/2. you can use them either direction, they are just like mini glass packs.

The smaller end fits but you need to use a shim also.. I cut and wrapped the pipe with sheet metal, then put the muffler on. you can buy the shims or make 'em but the ones you buy have a little lip that makes it easier to install cause they won't slip inside too far...

You will also need to slot the end of the muffler so a clamp will tighten it down.. and you'll need a nice clamp not a hose clamp cause the muffler body is pretty thick.

I ran them on a GS400 last year but replaced them with a 2 into 1 exhaust.

The pipes are VERY LOUD and while i didn't re jet mine, it had a slight chuggle on at times but not too bad.

          Thanks Tom,
I have heard mixed reviews on the jetting. I have bumped my pilots, shimmed my needle and went progressively up on my main jet. I am at 127.5 and I am almost certain that I could go to 130 (although the plugs right now seem to be as perfect as I am going to get with CV's. I will just make sure I have the 130's in hand for the swap just in case.

If you are interested I have a brand new set of slip on mufflers that look like they would be right at home on a gs450, honda 450 NightHawk etc. Free if you can use'em
