550L exhaust fit help

I have an 82 550L with stock exhaust and purchased a used exhaust that's supposed to fit, however the header inserts are too large. It looks like if I grind them down or cut the ends off they'll fit in the cylinders but I'm afraid if I do the passenger pegs bolts won't line up. Anyone have suggestions?

I had the same thing happened to me.I needed a 1981 GS550L exhaust and was sent what I think is a 1983,Was stated to fit 81-82.Large header ends on mounting flange ends.Check out a 1983 totally different flange.

I'm not going to use it.I'll try to locate the right one.I'll chalk one up for not looking more closely online.Spare parts are sure the results of rebuilding these bikes. Good luck
