    Will a 1985 GS550E exhaust fit on a 1980 GS550E?

Need a new exhaust for a 1980 GS550E I'm working on and I can get one for a 1985 GS550E, but I would like to know if it fits before I have it shipped out.

I could dig my spare out and measure the pattern of the pipes. Its too dark to do it now but I doubt they fint.

If its not too much trouble that would be amazing.

Just header diameter where it fits into the head, the header flange bolt hole distance, and the distance across all four pipes would give me all the info I need.

      Thanks!

No, you will also need the height of the exhaust port above the horizontal part of the pipes.

I think I remember seeing somewhere that the 4-valve 550s (like the '85) have a shorter block than the 2-valve engines, so the newer pipe might not fit.

It is hard to grasp what you are saying Steve.

Ah, I see what you mean. The distance from bend to bend, where it goes into the exhaust port and where it bends to go under the engine.

              Ports are left to right
              1-1 90 mm
              2-3 110 mm
              3-4 90 mm

Space twixt pipes on headers at bottom bend
              left to right
              1-1 60 mm
              2-3 120 mm
              3-4 60 mm

drop from top of header input to bottom bend

              15 inches outside pipe
              15.5 inched inside pipes

              all measures are approximate

Pipes won't fit. Totally different cylinder spacing, not to mention fitments under the bike.

                To measure is to know.

can give the definitive answer so long as his 550 katana engine is the same as the 1980s.
                  he has a 550m katans and a 550es
