    GS400 Exhaust recommendations

    Hey guys,

    I have a 1981 GS400L that i'm building into a softtail bobber (I like my spine)

Only exhaust options I've seen around are the 2-1 pipe which I don't like.

Has anyone ran this motor without mufflers, or with some sort of baffle in them? How does it sound? Is it worth the hassle of jetting for the sound difference? Not sure what kind of note the 400cc motor will put out

    Thanks

Not a big fan of the stock trumpet mufflers, but will leave them on for the time being until I find something else I like

Personal opinion is that parallel twins and inline fours sound like crap with no mufflers, not just the volume but the note also.

I've seen some with shorty pipes ending under the footpegs, but the risk there is exhaust fumes in your face when idling... ugh!

My personal opinion (had enough of it yet?) is you can have a good exhaust made up that sounds good, looks good, flows free and won't have you dying from carbon monoxide poisoning at idle... just get a vision in your head of what you want and go see a good exhaust shop.

My custom 2 to 1 built as a one off was less than $AU800 so you guys in the US should be able to get them done much cheaper than that...
