It is a common mod with pods to leave the vent lines off. I believe Keith Krause posted the rationale behind it.

Also, have a long hard look at those pods. Did you happen to knock one or more loose when you were puttering around the carbs?

Yes, leave those vent hoses off. You are running pods so you have the correct configuration.

I'll agree that its more than likely an air leak. Outside of that, I have had the mechanical advance unit hang up on other motorcycles I have had, due to wear on the advance plate. The pins on the bob weights got hung up in the slots sometimes. I haven't had or heard of this on a Suzuki, but I think 1981 still has a mechanical advance.

Don't mean to steal the thread but I left the hoses with my pod configuration. What's the rationale behind taking them off?

Wouldn't fumes leak onto the engine block and pool there?

Must have been a vac line lose or carb boot, I reseated all the lines and even undid and re clamped the boots seems to be okay now, thanks guys for all the input.
