A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1100e running lean

I think the needle is good.
Try a 125 on the main to see if you can get some color on those plugs.
What temp are you running?
Good on the 47.5 pilot. No popping on decal? Should be 2.5 to 3 turns out on mixture screw.
Lean is mean but it melts engines.

Mine is canadian so its not degrees. The gauge goes to 160 and I have hit as high as 150!!! Today though with the elevation change never went highr than 130 is I'm close.

Not good for a stock engine

I suspect you meant to say that it is not Fahrenheit but Celsius (or Centigrade). Still, 150C = 300F, which is quite warm. Mine used to get that high until I installed an oil cooler; then it dropped around 100F (38C).

Lol..yes I did I'm on my cell phone. Azr and I are installing the oil cooler next week.

A stock engine shouldn't 'require' an additional cooling mechsm. (But they do look bitchin'!!). It's not like the suzuki engineers screwed up or anything. And you don't live anywhere hot. I would be concentrating on reducing 'natural' running temperature before installing cooler. Seems like just a band-aid. (?)
Folks with way more knowledge than me can correct me, if wrong ?

(Last yr riding down to Paso Robles inland ... I almost fell asleep it was so hot ... but stock engine ('83 1100) sat right on 210 mark (100C))
Just my 2c

ps I have one without (mentioned) and one with cooling doodad (extra brick on bike thingy) and notice no difference. (both stock engines ... ie no hot-rodding)
good luck!

Not really a band-aid, the GS1100E were designed to have an oil cooler, they even have the connections to hook one up. They just were not sold with one. An 1150 oil cooler is a direct install.

I figured that was for when the hot-rodding began! :)

That would be my concern continuing to ride on a lean condition because you "fixed it" with an oil cooler.

LOL.
posplayr, trevor has been around a while; I don't think he confuses cooling with carb tuning.

Just going off what was stated, going on a trip in the great nor west coast and having a stock 1100e hit the equiv of 300 deg f there is a problem Houston. An oil cooler is not going to change what is most likely a lean condition. If he knew how to fixit this thread would not have gotten started. Towit the comments fix the lean first the. Worry about the cooler later.

Yes, a band-aid. Treating the sympton ... not the cause!! (EXACTLY like the medical establishment, but that's for another thread! :D)

If you read my posts you will see that I'm fixing the jetting issue first. The oil cooler is lent to be just a bonus. Going on a trip to bamff two up riding with gear in 35-40 heat. Over a hundred degrees! I have said along I want the bike to run properly, then and only then will a cooler be going on! Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.
Thanks for the help guys,
Trevor

Really I think you should just throw in the towel and sell me your bike for $500 :D
