The best lube is ... NONE.
Remove the plungers, polish them up. Clean out the bores, re-install the plungers.
Most any lube you put in there will attract any dirt that might happen by, and will crud everything up, resulting in the situation you currently have.

If she's stood around then it's a safe bet that the inside of the cylinders have got caulky with alloy corrosion. You'll have to pull the plungers out and polish the internals.79 GS1000S

Sticky float needle or float ht slightly to low would be my guess..Can raise the ht 1 MM and see if that solves the problem.
EDIT...check to see if the overflow tube is loose in the bowl or hasn't got any cracks in it. Float hts may be OK but there be damage to the tube itself.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

First thing Id check is to make sure the drain screw is tight. The name has been changed to protect the dumass that didnt once before

And the 4 bowl screws themselves..yes I am guilty of that one once.
