    Carb Issues, Probably Forgetting Something

Alright, I've been having carb issues since I got this thing, and threatening to turn it into an electric bike hasn't solved any of the problems. I have a bike and I want to ride it. So it shall be fixed.

    Current Issues:
    Hanging Idle
Shuts off after being warmed up. Not startable until cold.
Jerks when going from 0 throttle to some, and then back to 0.
Gas leak from the hoses from carb

    Related "Fixes"
    New intake O rings
    New intake boots
    New Carb/airbox boots
    New airfilter
    New petcock
Replaces exhaust gaskets a while back
    Had "cleaned" carbs with spray

    Perhaps unrelated "fixes"
Replaced a coil with a used one
R/R replaced before it could do any major damage
    Built a new ignitor
    Replaced P/O melty wire misshap
Cleaned and removed some of the connectors, grounded things

    Will be done
Carbs WILL be dipped, or inhouse lead mechanic will get a hot poker to the rear
O rings have been ordered from the favorite GS supplier, and will be put on when they get here.
Valve Clearances will be checked, on threat of more poking.
Oil will be changed, because gas in the oil is not fun. You only do some things once...

So what have I missed that will help me get this thing to where it should be. We don't have a carbtune/colortune so that goes out the window. I feel like I'm a bit ahead of the game here, even if it was just replacing the boots first. That was done a few months ago, and it still runs like a fat lady who hasn't gotten off the couch in a few years.

Not to distract you from a real carb cleaning.(needs doing)
Fix or replace hose that leaks.(real cheap find clear gas resistance tubing)
    Do the valve clearances next.
Thinking you are on the right track.
How long from start to shutoff? (warms up)
    Any smoke?
The reason for the how long question.
Plugged vent in gas cap leading to dry carb bowls?

I'm at work currently so I can't take a look at the gas cap. Ill do that tomorrow or Tuesday, when I have the time

Start to shutting itself off was about 4 -10 minutes.

The fuel seems to be coming from the breather hoses, but I can never catch it in the act. Its a sneaky leaker.

A little bit of smoke, but only after a being ran for 7-10 minutes.

The hanging idle is usually attributed to a air leak.
I see in the lists you have been narrowing down the possibilities.
They can be a real pain to track down.
Are you using the stock air element/filter?
Might be a stupid question but have you looked at your oil level to see if you have had gas flow from carbs past cylinders to your oil?
May also check by sniffing oil for gas smell
May smell like it in general area from leaking hose though.
Guessing you have seen Basecliffs website?
Here is a link just in case.

Would be great if someone with more experience could chime in.
Seems like you are working on the issues and going in the right direction.

I ran down botht he newbie list, and bass's multiple times, and while creating this.

I've had this bike for around 2 years, I don't think I can move much slower.

I had the carbs done by my dad, but the stubborn man refused to dip them.

            Looking at the top 10,
1 Carb is going to be done. Fixed.
            2 Replaced the O rings.
3 Didn't get the valves done yet. Also stubborn person and waiting on the gasket. Need to find the parts number for it.
4 The airbox is all stock
5 Oring kit from Mr. Barr. No issues there.
6 Brakes are currently fine, going to do SS in the winter when its car season.
7 Cleaned up the old wiring and replaced the RR. Done.
            8 nothing wrong here
9 Searching out info here. Most things I found were the simple "Put new boots on" type of deal. Did that, still having issues.
10 Here to learn, or else I wouldn't be here. I didn't learn wiring for my good health.

So I did 2, which will be done.
            Anyway,

Filter is OEM from Boulevard. Didn't seal the top up with new weatherstripping, thats also on the to do list.

Oil level has been suspiciously high. I had oil leak onto the roadway once close to home. Not going to repeat that. I can afford to put new oil in it just in case.

Next time it shuts off pop open the gas cap and see if it will restart after you give it time to refill the float bowls. If you still have nothing put a plug on the plug wires & see if it has spark when its hot. Points or electronic ignition ? Have you cleaned the petcock filter & checked for gas flow from it when it shuts off ? Gives us some info so we can help you.

Found the valve gasket, was looking in the wrong area on Boulevard Suz.

Ignition is electronic, Petcock is new so filter should not be an issue, but can check again. I'm at work again, so will check the gas cap and the gas flow tomorrow.

Spark hasn't been an issue since we built the new ignitor and put on the new to us coil. Can check though just to cover the bases.
