Carb cleaning kit for 82 gs400t

Hey guys, a friend and I are going to clean my carbs but I am unsure what the serial number is for my carbs. Anyone knows where I can find it so I can go to my shop in town and buy it?

    Thanks

    Andrew

Spend some time reading at this link and avoid "carb rebuilding kits"- doesn't matter if you got one carb or six, same rules apply. You likely have CV style carbs - round top with 4 screws???

The only "carb cleaning kit" you will need will be a can of Berryman's (or GUNK brand) Carb Cleaning Dip and a set of o-rings from cycleorings.com.

If the carbs have not been apart for quite a while, you might also need float bowl gaskets.

Be careful with the diaphragms becasuse they are fragile and easy to tear. You have to remove the pilots and the emulators because thats where these clog up. (at least on my bikes)

If you are going to go thru them, buy new pilot plugs, buy new bowl gaskets and personally I prefer replacing the pilot jets/vs cleaning them since they are cheap.

Your carbs should be BS34 models like these.

what is wrong with a carb kit?
Btw my friend is a mechanic for the military here in Canada, and he will said he will put my carbs in an ultrasound carb cleaner.
And he will be doing pretty much of the work, I am just watching and learning for now.
If I should not get a kit, what specifically should I replace?

The parts you'll get are inferior, not all of what you would need (orings), and way too costly. Just pick up the orings from www.cycleorings.com, a set of bowl gaskets, and clean your parts

cycleorings.com is a great website. I love the simplicity.

Recommendations for float bowl gaskets? It seems that many of the Suzuki float bowls take the same ones. I have read that K&L are no good. What to do?

My bike is 31 years old. I'm still using the stock bowl gaskets. So long as they aren't stuck, and torn upon removal, you're good to reuse them. If you need new ones, just pony up for OEM gaskets. Too many horror stories about aftermarket gaskets to run the risk, especially when it comes to volatile fluids directly over a hot engine.
