Fuel still not flowing - not petcock help

hi, so here is a status update but I still need help if anyone can offer something for me....


FAIL #1:
-I drained the gas out of the tank
-I took out the petcock
-I took it all apart and it was super clean and no tears in the diaphram etc...

In the end I realized that my gas tank has no PRIMe function:

1)It has FUEL - which allows gas into the tank which is above the little pipe thingy in the filter.
2)it has RES - which once all the gas is gone down to the pipe opening allows for more fuel to flow
3)It has OFF - which blocks all fuel from flowing from the tank to the engine

ok so after realizing that it was not the petcock, I narrowed it down to the vacuum suction not working which I presume comes from the turning of the engine....so....

FAIL #2:
I tried putting gas directly into the carbs by using a syringe into the actual clear pipe into the carbs. I filled it until no more would go in and tried to turn over the engine without success. I put the airbox on and put the choke on and still no start.

FAIL #3:
I opened the valves at the bottoms of the Carburators(bear with my terminology if its incorreect) and drained all the gas in case it was old(it was crystal clear, no gummed up gas that might be clogging stuff that I could see. I put new gas like in Fail #2 and checked to see it was going into the carb bowls which it was. Choke on and attempt to start and neg.

Engine turning just no catch. No throttle being used as choke is on...

I checked the spark plugs and tested they spark fine. no gas on them.

Out of frustration I blew some brake cleaner into the airbox and the bike roared to full throttle and then shut off......I just needed to hear it purr!!!

I am lost at what to do. FOr some reason, the bike cant get gas from the carbs into the engine so it can fire up. Any thoughts. Here are some photos.

Could it possibly be electrical issues? There are 2 green wires that are coming out the main electrical snake coming from the front that are labelled gas tank but they actually don;t connect to it so I think that I labelled them incorrectly:

The wires probably go to you fuel gauge, as far as the bike not firing have you properly cleaned the carbs? sounds like the enrichener[choke tubes] are plugged

THe wires that I am pointing to they actaully attach to the fuel gauge round thing on the inside of the tank but I have no idea where the ones that have the green tape on them go.

HOw would I clean the choke tubes? or unplug them or check to see what needs to be done?

The bike was running fine 1 year ago and I haven;t taken any of the engine apart so I thought it would just start again. It sat idle for 1 year though.

I haven't cleaned the carbs but shouldn't it start regarless and just run bad if they are dirty?

No if it has sat , it does not mean it should just start. You ARE going to have to pull the carbs and give them good proper cleaning if you want the bike to run correctly without problems or chasing your tail. You can find many tutorials on this site on proper carb cleaning with new O-Rings and while you are at it make sure your intake boots and orings are good as while as the air box boots. The O-Rings can be purchased reasonably here through Robert Barr. Sorry about the bad news . Good luck

After sitting, this is likely .Go to this link and look at pic of carbs. If the "choke" pickup tubes are blocked/gummed up, no fuel will flow up when you crank even if your bowls are full. Your brake cleaner test says cylinders need a fuel dose.

Sure you could just blow out the pickup tubes now and clear them enough to get it to fire, but your idle circuits are probably blocked too , so best to bite the bullet and clean the carbs.

Winter is not THAT close, even in your area.

Carb cleaning should take less than a week, even if you are super-slow and careful.

I'm scared to take it all apart. So I think I'm going to bring it to a pro. 4 cylinders and no tools makes it hard. Also I'm afraid that if I take it all apart I'll never get it back together. I'm sending it in on the 15 th. I'll let u know how things go. Thanks all for the help regardless.

I haven't taken it to the guy yet. Where are you located? I'm in Toronto. I'd rather do it but like I said I'm a total newbie so it is much beyond my expertise. Would love to know how to do it though.

If you can't find a member locally then contact member Chef1366 and send them to him for a complete rebuild. He's reasonably priced and does good work.
