Questions about a custom exhaust "idea"

I have a 1978 GS550 with the stock 4 into 2 exhaust. The left side exhaust has a somewhat large surface hole in it, probably the size of a dime, that is soon going to break through and be a problem. It's about at the end of the muffler. The right side exhaust is okay, except for a small little pinhole on the botom about halfway down the muffler. I'd like to replace the mufflers, and keep the headers. I like the way they look and all that jazz. BUT, i want to put some kind of muffler on, obviously.

I really REALLY like this one, http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintag...-80-84030.html

The easiest way i can think to get 2 of those on would be cut the muffler off just past the welds and get a sleeve welded on. Right? That's about the only thing i can think of. My other option, would be to find a 4 into 1, but just the header..with no muffler on it..and put that reverse cone muffler on it.

What are your thoughts? I love the sound of that muffler, but if someone else has a good idea for me, i'd appreciate the shout.

They look nice, but they might be a bit louder than you want. They have 24" mufflers that are a bit cheaper, and some 27" ones that split the difference.

They also have some stainless mufflers with "universal cones". Of course, they are more expensive, but not prohibitively so.

We installed 24" Dunstall-style mufflers on my son's 450, and it was noticeably louder, I can't imagine what the 17s would sound like.

That is where we got ours.

Depending on the sound you want, it may not be the best choice,
but I can't say that the Dime City ones are any better.
Might even be the same item.
