Yes, it will run bad if it would start at all.

Do you have VM carbs (3 screws holding tops on)? If you hold one hand across one carb intake and press starter button, you should feel a slight "vacuum" on your hand as engine cranks. If it starts, it's got vacuum; getting it to run right involves lots of issues.
You say "ive done everything else ... " like what?

the other things ive done ,complete carbs rebuild ,dyna s ignition complete kit, timing set, plugs, fuel lines, filter ,peacock new battery. when I rebuilt the cabs I set them to factory specs ,with the needle I set it at #2 with the little clip. it was on the third space before but the guy I picked the bike up from had them so messed up that I decided to go with factory setting. starts right up and idles great, then I go down the road with alittle throttle and the bike seems to be starving ,like bogging down. maybe its not getting enough fuel.the fuel metering screw is at 2 turns out ,the air is at 1 1/2. the bike did have k/n pods but I put the air box back on . the bike ran fine in the past then started missing, popping etc. I change plugs ,which were black and it seemed to help ...for 5 miles then it started again. my thought was the coils were getting hot and failing .that's why I went with the dyna s figuring this was it. well, the next step is setting the vacume , . ive bench sync them already. that's about it . I,ll try tomorrow the main 102, the pilot air #15 with the coils I figured the spark wasn,t hot enough and it caused the plugs to get black, sooty thanks for getting back to me . I truly am thankful,Captrise

You've been busy for a "NO mech" guy. Let's bump you up and get someone more familiar with these VM's than me. Was running Ok ,but now running rich real quickly as you open throttle.

OK, I am just going to comment or ask questions in a copy of your post.

the other things ive done ,complete carbs rebuild ,
what kind of "rebuild"? Did you buy 'rebuild kits' or did you get the o-ring kit from cycleorings.com?

dyna s ignition complete kit, timing set, plugs, fuel lines, filter ,peacock
              Now there is a first.

new battery. when I rebuilt the cabs I set them to factory specs ,with the needle I set it at #2 with the little clip.
Is the rest of the bike stock? Pod filters? Header? #2 might not be the best place for the clip.

it was on the third space before but the guy I picked the bike up from had them so messed up that I decided to go with factory setting. starts right up and idles great, then I go down the road with alittle throttle and the bike seems to be starving ,like bogging down. maybe its not getting enough fuel.the fuel metering screw is at 2 turns out ,the air is at 1 1/2.
Depending on how "stock" the rest of the bike is, the fuel screws should be out 3/4 to 7/8 turn, and the air screws double that.

the bike did have k/n pods but I put the air box back on . the bike ran fine in the past then started missing, popping etc.
OK, this answers one of my questions.

I change plugs ,which were black and it seemed to help ...for 5 miles then it started again.
Black plugs show you are running rich. With your fuel screws out 2 turns, that is not a surprise at all.

my thought was the coils were getting hot and failing .that's why I went with the dyna s figuring this was it. well, the next step is setting the vacume , . ive bench sync them already. that's about it . I,ll try tomorrow the main 102, the pilot air #15 with the coils I figured the spark wasn,t hot enough and it caused the plugs to get black, sooty thanks for getting back to me .
The spark will not be any "hotter" in a clean-burning engine, they are getting sooty because you are running REALLY rich.
You should also be sure to have the stock plugs in there, B8ES.

              I truly am thankful,Captrise
