    Aftermarket mufflers

Are there aftermarket mufflers out there that do not require rejetting? Im looking to change the stock mufflers, for looks, but I do not want to change the factory setup if I don't have to. I have a 81 GS550L.

Most aftermarket mufflers will not require rejetting if you leave the stock airbox in place, especially if you leave the baffles in place.

Thanks. Good to know. What about shortening the pipes a little? Will that affect the air flow? My gut tells me it doesn't matter but I don't have much experience.

Shortening the pipes will change the air flow but not from a volume standpoint. It will change the powerband of the engine, shifting the torque curve higher into the RPM range. How much is hard to tell. I would leave the stock length unless you are building a racer or drag bike. The proper length was calcualted for street use by folks a lot smarter than me.
