different air jets
So I started to clean out the carbs today ( doing full soak ) and noticed that the air jets in carb 1,3,4 are all 190....in carb 2 it is a 150. ANy ideas? First thing that comes to mind is that this aint right. It should be the same as the others right? I mean....it doesn't have any thing to do with the petcock working off this carb does it?Tags: None

Okay, another day. After looking around.....I have found that the air jets I am referring to should be 180 for all of them. ( anybody need a 150? lol ) And upon further investigating on the forums, that the K&L carb kit may have been a bad idea. I still have old parts and will get to putting them back. I only managed to strip down two so that's not to bad. The rubber diaphragms looked rather suspect and I have new rubbers to replace and have done so on the first two. Anybody ever replaced them? Oh....trying to get cir-clip back in while holding needle down and keeping the plastic thingy from not getting moved, all the while using a tool that almost works.... well it was not as much fun as I had hoped for!
And by looking the stock carb chart, I have deduced that by going from specs....I have a 1982 set of carb innards on my 1980 carbs. However the ID # that is inked on side of carb bodies indicate that they are indeed a set of 1980 carbs. I should be able to use the 82 specs ( that's whats in the carbs anyway).
So what is the major difference that I will encounter on the 180 vs 190 air jets?
The fun one can have while doing these little projects....!!

And as a quick side note....the little tubes that deliver fuel that have 2 o-rings on either end...most of the o-rings had become dry and brittle, some just fell apart as i examined them! Glad I am doing carb clean-out!

So is this here little plug supposed to just fall right off of carb body after you clean it? Does the rubber washer seal it effectively or do I need to put something on it and re insert on the carb?

Get new pilot plugs from SIRIUS CONSOLIDATED...Like 10 bucks for a pack of 4. Way cheaper than any other source. See page 4 here. Surf the pages..many diaphrams, gaskets at way less than anyone ive yet to find.

I have always staked the plug back in. It's only used in manufacturing the carb, it does nothing while the bike is running. (unless it falls out)

The oring holds is up into the carb body so it doesnt drop a tad low and make excess turbulance in the throat also...I just use any nitril oring that comes just a tad proud of the bowl gasket surface...just maybe 10/1000 is all it needs to be above the rim.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
