What other airboxes fit on '81 GS850G

First off, I'm sorry if this has already been addressed, but I can't get the search function to work.

So, I want to get an airbox for my GS850G, but it appears to me that my model of airbox was only used on the 80 and 81 GS850G, and they're hard to find on ebay for less than $50, so what other airboxes can fit on? As long as it mates with a CV carb will it work?

The 1000G for the same years will be close. Not sure if the holes for the boots are larger or not, but the carbs themselves are 2mm bigger, so they might be.

Besides matching up to CV-type carbs, you also need to have the correct mounting locations and air filter location. The 850G and 1000G were the only ones to have the filter on the bottom of the airbox.

Actually, the GL models also had the filter on the bottom, but the '80 850GL was the only 850GL that matched that style box on the G. The '81 850GL airbox was a slightly different style that matched the '82/'83 G.

But if I buy, for example, an airbox from an '82 850G will the holes match up? I can make something to mount it if the mounting isn't the same.

Perhaps I should add context. I am thinking about buying this airbox off ebay:
        http://www.ebay.com/itm/82-Suzuki-GS...51172319496%26

I'd then buy boots for it from Z1

You would have to have Z1 special order those boots, might be cheaper at one of the other online vendors.

Since you are looking at putting an '82 airbox on an '81, I can show you EXACTLY what it will look like.

              Here ya go:

As you can see, it will fit, as far as meeting up with the mounting points and the carbs, but the interface with the side covers is rather "iffy".

As long as you don't mind that look, go for it.

As Steve stated, you can get the OEM quality ones from Deland/Boulevard Suzuki for about $11.15 each.

I ordered an '82 box without boots for $25 including shipping. This way I'll start out with new boots instead of ordering them later down the line. I may still order the boots from Z1. I want to buy more carb jets, and I've been nothing but impressed by Z1's quality/service so I may just pay the $5 difference and get it from them.

It will probably cost you more than $5 in shipping to get them from somebody else, anyway, so go ahead and try them.

Please let us know how they work, though. Sometimes the generic replacements just don't measure up to OEM quality, no matter how reputable the vendor.

Well, I got my carb jets and boots from z1. The carb boots came with a sticker that said genuine suzuki, and made in japan. I guess they don't sell generic.
