It's been done, but be careful it will/could discolour them.....

better off with BerryMan's dip, or dip in PineSol over night

hopefully you removed all the rubber and diaphragms, and have them taken apart

Why, oh why do they keep trying these things?

Will be looking forward to the post in the Parts Wanted section: "Need a set of carbs for my '81 550. Anybody have some? "

Just a general hint (although it's a bit late now), to chemically remove something, you need a solvent that will dissolve the element to be removed. The crud in your carbs is PETROLEUM based, not food based. You need to use solvents based on petroleum products or some that have high detergent content, I don't think that vinegar fits into either one of those categories.

Yes they were broken down... Everything is fine guys ive done it several times to several different carb setups and never had any problems.... i reassemble them in the next couple of days and get them back on the bike. BTW they were relatively clean i just had them off to install a new starter and thought how it would be nice to do a little preventive maintence....
