    Help with airbox hoses

For my 1980 GS750e I ordered boots for the carbs to engine as well as the carb to airbox from Z1.
The carbs to the engine boots are good.
The problem is the carb to the airbox boot. The boots sent to me were too big.
When looking at the invoice I realized that it said GS1150 on it for those boots (see pic) but chris at z1 says that they are supposed to be the same size?

Here is how they fit on a spare set of carbs I have that are off an 82 gs750e (which I'm assuming are the same size as the boots are just as loose on those as the ones on my bike) I put the carbs back on my bike with the old boots but of course now I have a hanging idle I'm sure from a vacume leak. Argh!!

So you can clearly see that the boots are too big for the carbs.

Chris at z1 as per usual has been great trying to figure out the problem. So far he says that the parts #s are correct.
    Anyone?

The part number is correct for both models, according to a fiche search through Boulevard as well. Seems like they might be mispackaged/labelled/manufactured parts from Z1s supplier
    '83 GS650G
'83 GS550es (didn't like the colours in the 80's, but they've grown on me)

Yeah this one has Chris very confused.
This is an email from chris regarding what the K&N rep told him...
I'm no mechanic but how can 36mm carbs on the 1150 have the same size boot as the 32mm found on my 750???

      Here is the email...

      Trevor,

Taking a bit different approach to support / refute my findings, I went to
K&N's website to see if the GS1150 and GS750 share the same pod filter. They
      do.

      RC-0984

      1980 SUZUKI GS750 750 - inc. 4 filters
      1985 SUZUKI GS1150ES 1150 - inc. 4 filters
      1985 SUZUKI GS1150E 1150 - inc. 4 filters

      Etc.

So this indicates that the inlet side of the carbs is identical on both
      models.

That is a good point, too. Just had a look at the carb specs for both bikes, and it does seem there is that difference between the carbs.

Looks like the fault is in the information provided on the fiches...

Nope that is the replacement number. But I'm curious about part #3. Does it fit internally to the hose ?

The part number for the 750 is listed incorrectly by Suzuki in all of their parts books - just an admin balls up. I can't remember what the right number is for the 750 but if you email Robinsons Foundry in the Uk they have the correct number written in pencil in their parts book.

I had the same problem and they sorted it out.

That makes sense! I just sent an email and pasted your answer to Chris at Z1.

                  Cheers,

                    Hey HH,

Anyway you could get that # for me? I have been trying to email them and it won't go through for some reason.
Thanks I would really appreciate the help. This is driving me crazy!

Part no. 3, I do believe so, at least on my 1100 they did, the new ones were one solid piece, thin easily bendable metal, not the kind with the open end that you could overlap and grasp with a pair of needle nose and slide inside the hose.

Well, to find a peculiarity in the OE's fiche is a rarity. Thankfully.

But, after doing some creative Googling with the oldest number, 13881-49200, the next number, 13881-49020, and the final supersede 13881-49021, I sort of stumbled across a completely different number --- 13881-45450. Even more strange was the "where used" list being so abbreviated --- fits 82-83 GS750T models.

That, in and of itself, was enough to prompt some further sleuthing. OE's survive by making as few different parts as possible for as many different models as possible. Simple economics. So for a random 750 model to have it's own unique airbox hoses, red flags were waving and bells were going off.

I called two local "well established" (read: OLD) dealers to determine if they had the part on their shelf that they could measure for me. No such luck.

In the meantime, Michael Robinson, from the aforementioned Robinson Foundary responded to an inquiry. His reply:

                            Hi

I think in the UK this bike was called a GSX750 16 valve in line 4 as the GS750 was an 8 valve in line four, in which case in our parts book for the GSX750ET (T being the 1980 model) we have crossed out the 13881-49200 part number as we have found it to be wrong and hand written in the correct part number of 13881-45450 we can get these they are £12.22 each plus postage

                            Hope this helps you
So after this accumulated evidence, I think we're going to proceed and order Trevor some 13881-45450 boots and have a go at making them work.

My hope is that Trevor concludes this thread with some positive news that subsequent victims of an oversight can find useful in the future.

Now, if we can just figure out how to get Suzuki Motor Corp to update their information.

Trevor, Michael at Robinsons has replied and the part number is 13881-45450.

They have them for £14.66 each. I just googled the part number and they are a lot cheaper in the US.
