I'm having a problem with the fuel petcock on a 78 GS 1000C. In the on position fuel runs from the petcock. I rebuilt the petcock thinking that the diaphram was bad but this has not helped at all. I assume that it should not pass any fuel without the motor providing vacuum. Help!

Most of the rebuild kits do not fit some model petcocks. If you take it apart and look, you may find the aluminum pin with the o ring on it is too short to ever seal against that angled bore down there. Not sure exactly on yours. Sometimes the old petcock bodies are too corroded to seal properly. Most of us don't even bother with a rebuild anymore, new ones are only $50 or so, it will last thirty more years. -
And I will add my advice to save you about half the cost of the ones listed for the 78 1000s......get one for a 77 or 78 750. Same petcock except the fuel and vacuum nipples are facing different directions. They will bolt right up.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
