GS550E carb tune
just acquired a new GS550E project a couple weeks ago. carbs were totally mangled by previous owner, ordered some parts got her to start fully choked. Now im not to sure of the year but my guesstimation is an 82. So ive re-built, cleaned and installed all carbs with now individual filters (as appose to the stock air box) and am not sure of what the pilot screws are supposed to be set at. ive seen some say stock is like 1.5 out some say that's way to lean especially with the filters. need some suggestions please. ill put pictures up if neededTags: None

You need to rejet the carbs for those air filters. This info is contained in the newbie mistakes thread linked in my signature, along with a bunch of other common pitfalls. Good luck with your project.Ed

ok, so I have read your thread and your tutorial. I appreciate your response and help. That being said all is in order and my problem seems to be solely with the jetting of the carbs. I do have quite a bit of knowledge when it comes to rebuilding most Japanese motorcycles, but not so much with performance upgrading on such. is there any way you could point me in the right direction as to what I should go for in size for the jets?

You have 2 choices. Either fit a Dynojet stage 3 kit and it'll be easy. Or you can try jetting it yourself with a bit of trial and error. If you go for the latter I would start with 42.5 pilots and 125 mains with the jet needle shimmed by about 1mm.
The Dynojet kit gives you new needles though and, other than the shimming, you can't correct a weak mid range yourself.79 GS1000S
