Is the #1 carb the most gunged up?
Usually it is, if the petcock is leaking a tiny bit, the fuel flows slowly into the left carb, since it is the lowest one, as it turns to goo it is replaced by more fuel, which makes more goo.
The end resut is the left one gets all gunged up.
The real problem is letting the bike sit too long.

Down the line you won't have trouble if you ride it a lot. Sitting idle is what screws them up. If you do have to let it sit for months, drain the fuel from the float bowl first.
Check the petcock, they usually are bad after 30 years.
If the petcock is leaking even a tiny bit draining the float bowls will do no good, they will refill, and reclog the jets. Especially the left one.Last edited by tkent02; 02-23-2014, 12:25 PM.
