    Rebuild the petcock gs1000

I have a 79 gs1000e with leaky carbs. I'm planning to rebuild the carbs but also wanted to do the petcock. Bike cliff seems to recommend a new one, but looks like they run around $300 are there any successful rebuild kits out there? If so where's the best place to buy? Thanks

Buy a petcock for a '79 GS750 and it can work on your model.

You can pick up a good petcock from Z1 Enterprises for much less

I don't think you can, I've looked, and it's just wishful thinking.

What's the bolt spacing? I'm seeing three of them for under $50

Bolt spacing is the same as yours.

And none of those say they're for a GS1000 except one, and that's for an
                  '80 model.

Call them. They have a lot more tuff than what's on their lousy website.

So, no one sells a decent rebuild kit for a gs1000?

                        The only options are

                        -a new 750 (slightly different)
                        -an overpriced oem assembly
                        -Swap to a pingel
-Use a k&l kit that will deteriorate sooner than it should

                        Is that about right?

Remind me (PM) and I can send you pictures of the 1000 petcock next to the 750 petcock tomorrow evening. I am expecting three new 750 ones in tomorrows shipment and have plenty of 1000's on the shelf.

I'd crack the petcock open and take a look. If there isn't any wear in the zinc body it should be rebuildable, assuming you can find a suitable kit. I just rebuilt the petcock from my KZ750 and it turned out nicely. 44mm spacing by the way...

The metal looks fine, it's a suitable kit that seems that seems elusive. It seems there's a lot of issues with buying the correct rubber with these bikes
