Eric..yes they are getting that hard to find. But i have seen them way cheaper on Ebay than the one I picked as an example for the original poster to copy. Just gotta keep lurking and see what comes along.
      MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
      1978 GS 1000 E, 1979 GS 1000 S, 1973 Yamaha TX 750, 1977 Kawasaki KZ 650B1, 1975 Honda GL1000 Goldwing, 1983 CB 650SC Nighthawk, 1972 Honda CB 350K4, 74 Honda CB550

NEVER SNEAK UP ON A SLEEPING DOG..NOT EVEN YOUR OWN.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

That's bad news! Don't ride it. There is no valve tapping because there is no valve clearance, they get tighter with wear and too tight will burn them up.

The #1 most common reason for GSes to die an early death!

            Tappy valves are happy valves!

making air box cover for gs1000e

Hopefully this will do the trick until I can grt my hands on an original ...
Ill put either some good rubber silicone on the inside or some weatherstrip to hopefully seal things up tight ...

Just cut some flat stock aluminum to shape , then made wood template of exact size and shape , clamped aluminum to template and started shaping ... tap tap tap tap and voila !! Ill spray paint it black when complete ..
