    gs400 ready for carb tuning

I've dipped the carbs, re-installed the old exhaust, adjusted valve clearances, installed new boots and o-rings. I have the cheap pods on and plan to keep them so this needs to be considered for any tuning advice. Once idleing, I've adjusted the idle to approximately 1,100 rpms. When I rev the engine under 3,000 the rpms slowly come down (approximately 3 seconds) When revving above 3,000 rpms it hangs for some time before coming down. If i've read correctly this means that I am running lean. My question is where to go to richen at higher rpm's? Is this needle jet territory or is this something that needs to be addressed with the pilot jets. Also, my carbs are mikuni bs34 so the air/fuel mixture is on the front of the carbs (no drilling needed to find screw) I currently have them set at 3 turns out from lightly seated. All help or links to literature is welcome.

Do you have the stock jets and needles installed currently? If so, you will probably need to put in a DynoJet Stage 3 kit. (If they make one for the GS400. They probably do.)

Here's what I've learnt so far Zach...

On our CV carbs, tune from the main jet down. I started by tuning the needle and therefore had it way too rich because my mains weren't big enough.

The cheap pods are likely going to be too restrictive, so you may find you don't need to change much at all from stock.

Here's the link to my pain, our carbs and bikes should be close enough that this should give you some assistance I hope.
