Sorry to jump in am trying to confirm this for myself.

    so for a 78 gs1000e all 1000 tanks and 1100 / 750 tanks will fit (not talking L tanks)?

all G (shaft drive) won't fit chain drives?

late tanks (80+) will fit all but early has issuses with peacock fitting late model due to carbs?

    is that right?????

No they will not fit on your chain drive GS1000.

You need the ones I told you about.

I have two '78 1000E tanks to sell if you can do some bodywork. If not good luck finding one, they are scarce as hen's dicks.

Shaft drive bikes are different, their tanks are diffferent. I had one on my 1000E when I bought it, the back of the tank sat up six inches above the seat, even though he had hammered on it quite a bit underneath to make it fit.

Chain drive 1000E tank, or a 1980 - 1981 GS 750 or GS1100E tank will fit. I think 1982 1100E is the same shape, not sure.

Earlier 750, no way. Any shafty tank, no way. L tank, not even close without serious welding skillz.

Here's a pic of the 1981 1100E tank on an 1000E if you'd like, I just put it on my 1980 1000E five minutes ago. With paint it looks fine.

              ok got it now thanks
would like the tank but am afraid the cost of postage to new Zealand would be a killer.
I will try to rebuild what I have PO managed to put a crease in every part of it so not too sure how it will turn out.

At least now you won't pay to ship a tank that won't fit.

So are any seats or tanks from other models compatible with something like an '83 850GL? The 850G is really growing on me.

About the only thing compatible with an 850GL would be the 1000GL or 1100GL of a corresponding year.

                    Same for the tanks.

Note that G and GL seats and tanks are not compatible.

We can discuss that when you come up here later today.
