    GS850 Carb Jet

    Hey all, I need to jet a set of 850 carbs. Last time I jetted 1100 carbs, I went with the dynojet kit, but then found out that it didn't include the much needed pilot jets. Does anyone have a good baseline I should use if I were going to make an "a la carte" a kit? The bike has a stock exhaust and POD filters, but may have a high flow exhaust in the near future. I could get away with just installing new Mains and pilot jets, the adjustable needles aren't a necessity, right? Please advise.

    Everything that I read here,says you'll need the dynojet needle- unfortunately no a la carte ordering! must buy kit

      Jetting suggestions for your 850 will depend on what year it is.

      The '79 850 had VM carbs, later ones had BS carbs.

      Regardless, basic rule of thumb would be 4-6 sizes (on the mains) for the pods, another 3-5 sizes for a pipe. Pilot jets usually don't need to be bumped.

        It's an '82. I believe they're mikuni bs carbs. I had to bump the pilot jets on my 1100, maybe there's a significant difference between the two. If the needles are a necessity, I'll just buy the kit.

          If you are using the stock exhaust and K&N or APE pods, depending on the altitudes that you ride in:
          4,000' and up: 117.5 main jets and adjust fuel/air screws.
          Below 4,000': 122.5 main jets and adjust fuel/air screws
          Stock pilot jets/air jets/jet needles/needle jets for either situation. BTDT

              I recently had my '82 1100e (APE pods, V&H) professionally jetted on a dyno, and was told that it needed more parts than were included in the dynojet stage 3 kit.
              1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

              2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

                You still haven't posted which intake you have, which exhaust and what elevation ranges you are riding in. It's really hard to guess from here.

                  Maybe a better question would be, whats the largest main jet I can run with a stock needle? Ape pods, stock exhaust, 1000ft elevation
