exhaust clamp bolt replacement

Do yourself a favor and replace the bolts with studs and nuts, and yes replace the gaskets while you are at it.1984 GS1100GK newest addition to the heard

growler, the reason hjfisk says replace the bolts with studs is that the bolts will eventually strip out the threads in the head, which is not a good thing. Put the studs in there and the problem goes away because they stay put. Just a poor initial design by Suzuki that is easily remedied.

forgive my ignorance here. could you direct me to a link for appropriate studs/nuts? or are they something i can pick up at a hardware store? i'm happy to replace them, just want to buy the correct things. thanks!

You should be able to get them through any auto parts stores, they are 8mm and should be 45mm-50mm long. Also a Fastenal if you have one local. Could also order them through McMaster-Carr1984 GS1100GK newest addition to the heard

Just a couple of notes, growler. Brass nuts are better because if they get frozen on the stud they will strip out rather than the steel stud. Also, when you go to install them, put two of the brass nuts on the stud and tighten them to each other. They will lock together and allow you to use the outer nut to tighten down the stud.
