What size fuel line is on the bike? I'm at my office and am planning on grabbing some SAE line on the way home.

And probably a can of starter fluid.

Clever. Things I know are new on the bike.

        Fuel lines
rebuild carbs (confirmed yesterday when the PO came by)
        air filter
        adjusted valves

Please take this as being constructive and not a bashing. You know nothing about what has been done correctly unless you've done it yourself. I know that you say that the PO was a trusted person, but even trusted people can make mistakes. Clearly your bike is not running correctly. All the issues you've been having point straight to a carb, petcock or valve related problem. Take the time and do as others have suggested. Verify valve adjustment and make sure that your petcock is not leaking fuel with the engine off or leaking fuel into the vent line. A bad petcock can lead to many "fuel related" issues that look like a carb problem. If the petcock proves out to be good then I'd still perform a complete carb rebuild. There is no way to "verify" that the carbs were rebuilt correctly. If you insist on not doing it then let me change this message....

So I guess your bike is running perfect. Have a great day!

No no no. I'm not trying to be difficult. I promise.

I am starting simple. No fuel pulling into the vent, thats bone dry. And it will run on either prime or on position. No leaks though. I am going to replace the fuel line from the carb to the petcock after work today. I have my fingers crossed.

Would the starter getting hot from cranking cause the lumpiness i was experiencing trying to turn it over?

I rode the bike 10 miles home after it came back to life with starter fluid, it layed over a bit around 7k when i jumped on it to see if it would act up. It didn't die, there was a huge flat spot.

I wasn't trying to razz you either. Just wanted to make the point that sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and do the things that need to be done with any bike that's new to you.

Just curious as to what you mean when you say "the choke wont catch"?

You can throw all the choke in the world at it and it acts the same. Full choke will work sometimes, but you still have to man the right grip to keep it grumbling.

clean yer carbs or run some carb cleaner through it via a fuel additive.

My bike has often been hard to start if very hot on a hot day.
Sniff your crankcase to smell for gas.

Are you sure it's needs choke? What I'm asking is, is it not starting because of too little or too much fuel? Have you check your plugs when it's not starting? Wet? Dry?

Well, i replaced the fuel line and it fired right up. I rode it around and got it nice and hot, parked it and shut it off. It fired right up again. We'll see in the morning if it still feels like being fixed.

Mine when hot on a hot day seems almost as if it is evaporating all the gas from the float bowls and setting to prime does nothing to help this either.

Well, there was literally no fuel making it past the 3rd filter on the old set up. With the new clear sae line on it, i could clearly see fuel making its way into the carbs.

                            3rd filter?

Tank pick up, petcock and an added 3rd inline filter.

                              The 3rd inline and been....unadded.

Never seen good things happen with extra inline filters.
