Hi oxcadillacxo.
Welcome to the forum.
The very short answer is put the airbox and filter back on.
Sorry.
You see a motorcycle is a complex machine with a lot of compromises made by the design team.
The carbs are jetted so the restriction of the air filter and the restriction of the exhaust pipes are compensated and give you a good product.
If you change one, the other or both you have a different bike.
You can't make a better bike by just changing stuff. Sorry.
You need to rejet your carbs and do what Suzuki already did with years (Decades) of expertise.
Perhaps a member will chime in and tell you what jets to use. IDK.
It's above me to try. My bike is stock.

For starters: Have you adjusted the valves, cleaned the carbs? Stock exhaust? Which brand/type of air filters? What is the altitude range that you will be riding in? What is your location?

Stock exhaust carbs are clean valves are adjusted dont know the elevation and im in nc bike was running pods when i bought it. After further inspection it looks like the pods are blocking the holes in the carbs which is restricting air flow which in turn is causing it to bog when accelerating... taking the pods off and covering the carbs with a shop rag she runs greatLast edited by Guest; 05-08-2014, 01:44 AM.

When I replaced the stock air box on my '82 1100e with APE pods (K&N knockoffs), it barely ran. To make it usable until I could get it re-jetted, I taped over about 90% of the filters (see upside down photo).
She ran very fast, but hot like that. (She's properly jetted, electrical tape is off the filters now.)Attached Files1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red
2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

Are they the cheap pods on CV carbs? Have a look at the inside of the pod where it clamps to the carb. See that big ridge? It blocks the air passage to the slide diaphragm.
Buy K&N's or UniFliters if you must use pods, but your bike will run better all round with an air box.Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )
Past:
VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....

The only "air passage to the slide diaphragm" is up through the center of the slide.
If you are talking about the vent that is at the top of the intake throat, that is the air intake for the "choke". It will have nothing to do with how the bike runs when it is warmed up and off "choke".
