    Powdercoating carburetors...

I want to try this. I think the gloss black won't look good on the carb bodies, can't sand in all the nooks and crannies, gloss looks bad without a smooth surface. Don't want to bead blast anything, seems like a clogged up carburetor just waiting to happen.

I'm thinking gloss black tops and bowls, wrinkle black bodies. Just a touch of red on the Mikuni emblem.
    What do you guys think?

I'm not a fan of that wrinkle finish but having said that more important I think would be to have a contrast between the body and the bowls / tops.

      The red mikuni sounds good.

Masking as ever will be the devil.

you can safely vapour blast carbs, instead of bead blasting. just wash and blow out well afterwards

If they are going to be done apart just remember that all the threaded holes will get filled up to plus the mixture screw holes threads, air jet holes etc etc

If you have a sand blasting cabinet why cant you also use it for soda? Seems that way you can have every cranny clean and not have any worries about rinsing and being sure all is good.

OR be sure everything is plugged well and then just sand blast them.

Taping off anything you don't want powder coated is gonna be a pain, though I would think the carbs would look great. I was thinking of doing mine that way, just didn't have the $$ to try.

Just a suggestion, if you have some junk carbs laying about, take one and do the prep on it and powder coat it and see how it comes out. Best to lose one junk carb then a whole bank of good ones.

A good coater would have no issues with this and they would look great.

We definitely will need to see pictures of the process and the finished product.

The coater is me, not all that good yet but I'm getting better. Have been learning a few things as I go, like not to do gloss if the surface isn't perfect.

I have plenty of carbs to practice on, both good ones and extra sets. Soda through the blaster might work well, I'll think about it.
Just thinking about the color, and texture. I think some contrast would look better than all the same.
Might do red tops and bowls, and wrinkle black bodies on one set….
