Has anyone made their own exhaust?

I have an extra rusty set of gs1000 stock pipes and am too cheap to spend the big bucks for a store bought 4 in one.

I was wondering if anyone here has ever made their own 4-1 pipe?

I know how to weld, and prefer it to be black anyway. The only part I have real concern with is the collector.....

Got these rotted out ones that were on the Cooley still. Cut the down pipes out and use this collector. Bend your new downpipes and fit them to this one.

To do the job right you need some specialized tube bending equipment. Best match the tube diameters and lengths to a know good header design too. Lacking the proper equipment, I think you can purchase mandrel bent tubing sections which can be cut and welded together to get the desired curvature. Doubt you will save much money after it's all said and done, but it sounds like a fun project.

That may be a good idea. my thoughts were to use the stock down pipes and sleeve in extensions if needed.

You will need to do something...the far left ones wont be long enough to reach the collector.

More than one option there. I have thought of doing the same thing, but with a FLAT collector.

Not for a bike. Don't have any welding equipment currently either. It's on my eventually list.

              I'd do a 4-2-1 as opposed to a 4-1.

All of vibrant's stuff, and most of the readily available collectors are WAY too big

I saw an aftermarket 4-1 made with flat collector and it lloked to have far superior ground clearance, but I think you would have to do away with the center stand... which I am not prepared to do.
