    80 GS550 Exhaust questions

The muffler from my GS550E has bit the dust so to speak and is beyond repair which leaves me with some questions about my options.

My first thought is replacing it with an OEM part but they seem to be hard to find. I am also having trouble finding information on the compatibility with other years and models so if anyone could send some insight my way I would appreciate it.

My other thought was to keep the headers and get creative with the welder but that potentially leads down a dark road of back-pressure and jetting. This is a less favorable option.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site. 550 Exhaust pipes seem hard to find in my experience but it is possible - check out Ebay as one possibility.

Also look over Basscliff's site - http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff to find a lot of good information (service manual, maintenance tips, and other stuff) that will keep you reading for months. In it is a list of the top parts suppliers; although one of them, Alpha Sports, is the most expensive place out there, they have a great parts lookup feature to check compatibility.
