Whats wrong with yours?? Check the solder connections at the wires going into the flange and under the cover where they solder to the waffle board. Clean it all up in there while you have the cover off and be sure the slider arm things making good contact.

If you're referring to the sender unit for the fuel gauge then you won't find a new one anywhere. But yours can most likely be fixed. Mine was sitting in a tank full of old gas since 1993 and seemed beyond repair. But I soaked it in Evapo Rust, tore it completely apart and cleaned it thoroughly. I had to solder on a new wire on the inside the tank portion, but it now works perfectly. Don't give up on the old one too fast.

                Cheers!

I noticed the leak coming from the units middle piece where the arm is attached and rotates on. a green little circular piece.I JB welded that up let it sit than it started leaking from somewhere else. I think the first part with the middle piece I took care of. I bought a gasket(used although in good condition) But the u shaped gasket Im not sure about that one??? Also when tightening the bolts on the unit they keep turning so Im not sure if its sealing properly.

Go here and do the OHM test as outlined in the manual. As for the U shaped gasket..thats just for the outer catch cover in case the main one lets loose. Thats not the important one..the round one with the 5 holes is.

And if a bolt just keeps spinning it is stripped and not sealing the round gasket to the metal flange properly. You can retap the hole and drill the corresponding hole in the flange for a larger bolt. BUT remember to use a bottoming tap. this is because youve only got about 3/16 inch till youll hit the tank shell itself and you do not want to poke a hole thru the tank.

Go slow and easy and once then tap has gone thru be very careful. Once its thru just feel for it touch off on the tank ever so slightly and then remove the tap. Slow, easy and delicately doing the repair will win you the race here.

How could I poke a hole through a hole already in the tank???

Sending unit bolts should bottom to the tank, not through the tank. What Chuck is saying, if you have to retap, retap the flange only; don't go long and penetrate the tank, or you'll be chasing fuel leaks... then it's liner time.

And all this time, i had my sending unit running to the carbs. No wonder she wouldn't idle

Dont use too long of a replacement bolt either or else that will poke thru the tank also. Look at the flange and notice the little dimples under each bolt hole. Thats all you have to play with.
