Going to 2 carbs on my 550L
Anyone done this? Im going to make a manifold to bring the 4 down to 2, but I have no idea where to start, jet wise. I will probably get 2 new vm carbs, and use pod filters. what size innards would I look for to supply the same amount of gas? I realize it will take alot of trial and error, just looking for a good starting point.Tags: None

Don't start, fix your carbs (or pay a member on here to do it) - you'll learn more this way then jury rigging a different setup with inferior performance.1981 gs650L

I dont like cv carbs, i want some vm carbs. So from what I gather then, 2 carbs with the much maligned free flowing pod filters and no restrictive airbox, it should be a wash.

To answer your question, no, nobody's done this. For a reason.
You don't like CV carbs (although they work perfectly fine), you like VMs, so you're going spend tons of hours to invent and reengineer the entire fuel delivery system for your bike? And it's a 550L (why is it always a 550, 650, or 750 L?), so you're not doing it to increase performance to make it into a roadacer or dragbike.
Sound like a good idea to me. Let us know how it works out for you.sigpic

they dont work perfectly, nothing does, so you have nothing to offer except genreralizations. Im doing it because in the future it will be a more simple setup. What do you have against me spending time? It isnt your time or energy. I tell ya, i read this forum alot and i think an ideas merit can be gauged by how much resistance the old fogeys on here put up. You get so personal, like you effing invented the thing. NEWSFLASH - This just in - The ONE TRUE GOD, JEHOVAH, did NOT engineer the Suzuki GS!!!!! You Old Farts should remember what your mamas taught you about not saying anything at all.

Is this for some sort of minimalist bobber project? Running open pipes? Yes, kind of. Im moving the battery and electronics, cut the pipes, and they are currently b affled, but that could be changed if it would help the 2 carb system.

Try not to get any more butt hurt here but you are NOT smarter than the guys at Suzuki who engineered an air box and 4 CV carbs to work the best on your bike.
Sorry, but it's the truth.Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )

Around here, there are some weeks where more "modded custom project bikes" (i.e. F***ed over UJMs) are listed for sale than stock or mostly stock bikes, running or otherwise. The "modded custom" is rarely finished, almost never runs, and usually lacks the proper lighting and brakes to be safe to ride, or even street legal.
It's a damned shame, too.sigpic
