Inside of a 32-year-old tank!
My first real look inside...it's shiny! I should probably trim some of the flaking red paint from the opening, but I'm pleased with what I saw - shiny metal and no rust.1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

It looks way better than my 37 year old tank. I've spent this afternoon cleaning and sealing it using POR-15 Metal Prep and Fuel Tank Sealer.http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps06abce66.jpg

I was very pleasantly surprised with my 34 year old tank. When I had it stripped down for paint (petcock and fuel sending unit out) I thought, better check it for any rust. Nothing, nada no rust. Guess keeping the tank topped off all the time is a good preventive measure. Even when I had it stored for 4 years, I kept the tank full and treated. When I was able to ride again, dump the old gas, gave it a good cleaning and new fuel and away we go.sigpicMrBill Been a GSR member on and off since April 2002

Would like one of those endoscopes to see inside. Bet everyone would be very surprised at whats wedged way back in the rear corners and deep in the bottom crimp seams even after the most severe cleanings are done.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Yeah I think its the liner coming away but not sure about the crap in the neck? Looks like overspray or something when the tank was sprayed. Cant understand why the PO made such a good job on the tank spray but left the neck and inside so crappy? if it was me the whole thing would've been taken back to bare metal inside and out then I would've sealed the inside THEN prep and spray the outer oh well. Work in progress
