    Runs on choke, Dies as soon as I pull the throttle...

    Ok, Ive just done rebuilding my bike...I've got everything ready to go...I fired it up for the first time tonight and she started well...with the choke out, but as soon as I pull the throttle to rev the engine....it dies, or loses revs...any ideas?

    Aparently getting everything ready to go did not include cleaning the carburetors thoroughly.

      I cleaned them thoroughly...there spotless, even in an ultrasonic.

                  They are both right and it sounds like something wasn't done properly. However, I'll add one point here - is the airbox on?

                    A couple of points here:
                    1. You are "done rebuilding my bike". What all got "rebuilt"? Some guys go through all the cosmetics and call it a "rebuild". Other guys will do a frame-off restoration, refreshing or replacing virtually every part on the bike and call that a "rebuild". What all did you do? The focus here would be on engine maintenance, specifically valve adjustment and carb work.
                    2. Although the engine will start and run without the airbox, any attempts to add throttle will make it stumble and die. Adding 'pod' filters will help, but the carbs will have to be re-jetted to re-gain anything resembling 'proper' operation.

                    I will join Steve in wishing you good luck with your project and let you know that in the process of alienating those two first responders, you have lost access to some valuable experience. I doubt that either one of them will answer any of your questions, probably including the time of day.

                      Any or every time I have asked for help around here Tken had has always been one of the first to reply and has nailed solving my problems every time , based on what little information or knowledge I have provided ..remember people here are taking there time to help you out !!

                        It was a rebuild, a complete strip to the frame...I repainted and replaced everything virtually, new nuts/bolts, no the carbs were in good shape before hand and the bike ran beautifully before I stripped it...(always the case...lol) I have tried with both the airbox on and off and it's the same deal...fuel is definitely getting in, but I will look at the carbs again this weekend and clean them again just incase I missed something. As for the engine I didn't touch that, I actually left that alone other than move it out of the frame to paint it...mechanically apart from the carbs it wasn't touched.

                        As for alienating, I needed, need help and if some guy is just going to troll around forums and just not be helpful or sarcastic, then don't say anything at all! That's all I was saying!

                          Do your valve lash adjustments, make sure you have good boots on your carbs (both ends), and good O-rings on the intake boots. Make sure your airbox is properly sealed. Any vacuum leaks (is your vacuum line to the petcock good and attached?) will cause the problem you're describing. I thought had rebuilt the engine from your original post.

                            If you cant handle a little sarcasm , this garage is the wrong place to be !! . The very first reply from Tken02 told you whats wrong ... carb issue !!

                              I did check the boots on the manifold and carbs, they seem to be in good shape...I will check the vacuum lines tonight and make sure it's all sealed....I will also take the carbs off (again), I do have some new orings I can replace, although they seemed quite good when I checked, but I'll try anything right now...have to ride by Father's Day!
