Sorry guys, my mistake on the whole pods issue....NO PODS ON MY BIKE!!!!!!!!

Ill postpone the trip to the shop for now. The shop I was gonna go to is called Don and Sons cycles, supposedly the only shop in my area that works on old metric bikes.

If your jetting is stock then get the box from tkent but order some new manifold rubbers between the airbox and carbs. Believe me it is worth it, definitely

As youll see when you get the proper air box, the rubber boots are molded with velocity stacks that fit inside the airbox. Onn CV carbs youll notice a kidney bean shaped port at the very top. This duct leads to below the diaphrams and as air rushes into the carbs some is diverted to the diaphrams. This air pressure raises and lowers the slides relevent to the speed ( volume )of the air being sucked in by the cylinders.

So what everyone is trying to say is that without the stacks, the air velocity can only reach so much...which is at about 3000 to 3500 when they start to fail due to lack of intake air velocity...follow us here???

$75 is less than you were just willing to spend to have a shop tell you the same thing you learned here

Is it just the rubber boot I need or is there some sort of tube that goes through the holes in the box that the boot attaches to?

Can anyone explain to me why the airbox would make such a major difference??
Definitely hold off on the shop til you get the air box and a filter in it. Shoot Tom a PM and get it on its way and order a filter.

Heres the list that the part number cross to. And the boots have a groove in them that the metal of the airbox housing fits into. Its pretty self explanatory once youve got them in hand.

I have a great idea, I don't know why I did not think of it before, kill two birds as they say. Save money on the boots by using the old, and save money on the gym membership as you will get all the exercise he needs wrestling with the old boots.

Right there is another reason your bike won't run.

Stock jetting is 115 on the mains. With pods, you will need to raise that considerably, probably 125-130.
With a stock airbox, you will at least need 115s.

Rewind. Don't buy an incomplete motorcycle, and then expect it to run.

Nearly as good, but more expensive: after you buy an incomplete motorcycle, don't waste a lot of time wondering why it doesn't run.

Thanks guys. I drove out today to west 60 Cycle and bought a box from the salvage yard.....and what do you know.....IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MIND BLOWN!! Carbs need synced, but it runs. And it runs strong. Backfires a little on throttle down but I can deal with that.

Once again thank you guys for given me a gentle kick in the ass.
