1980 GS450 Carb Issue w/gas
I have a nice GS 450 with 800 miles 100% stock. I haven't ran it in a whlie but this week it started right up but now gas is pouring out of the carb, when the engine is off it is bone dry but when it runs it comes right out. I can't see exactly where it is coming from. I guess a seal is bad? But why don't it leak all of the time? I've been looking for a rebuild kit to repalce the seals if I have to and it looks like it is going to nearly impossible to find one. Any help or wisdom out there for me?Tags: None

So no gas poured out till bike started ? How long has bike sat idle. Your carb floats are probably stuck (or sunk) open- Try light tapping on carb bowls, cuz you might get lucky and free them.
Carb repair parts are readily available - all they need is new gaskets and o-rings. Avoid repair kits that have new jets in them.

Where is the fuel coming out? The side of the carb, bottom, front, back? Is only one carb leaking or both?
The bike leaks only when it runs because you have a vacuum operated fuel shut off. If you want to test the carbs without the engine running you can turn the lever on the side of the tank to "pri" which will bypass the valve. Just be careful!

Thanks guys! Yes, the gas only comes pouring out when the bike is running. Bone dry otherwise. It could be that the floats are stuck as you suggest, which sounds like an easy fix. I really have had no luck in trying to find a card kit to replace the gaskets. I must be challenged is some way or don't know what exactly I am looking for. Any ideas on where to look?
