pilot screw recommendations with stage 3
so after weeks of tweaking the carbs I finally have the bike running decent. I have MAC 4-1 pipes, pipes, and a dyno stage 3 kit. Currently I have the pilot screws at 1.5 turns out and the carbs synced using the carbtune. What would be the optimal pilot screw settings in my situation? It seems like I hear a lot of people start at 2.5 turns out, is this the common setting for my setup?Tags: None

The engine will tell you what it wants. Try this:

The recommendation for 2.5 or 3 turns (or whatever) is only a recommendation as a starting point. That will ensure a rich-enough mixture for the bike to run decently so you can start your tuning. Starting with the mixture too lean will have you chasing your tail, trying to find what is wrong.
Yes, your screws just might end up in the 1.5 turn range, but most of them are about 2 or a little more.
Please also note that not all of the carbs in the rack will necessarily end up with the same setting. When I did my son's 650, I think one was about 2 1/4, two were about 2 1/2 and the fourth one ended up at about 4.
Use whatever might be your favorite method to tune them, but tune EACH CARB, not the rack. After adjusting the mixtures, I usually go back through them again, just to verify that that setting is, indeed, what is going to work for that carb.
