    Fuel tank sizes?

I have an 82 450L. Now I am a chicken to run it dry to see how many Gal. it is. When i got the bike i never got the manual for it. I have looked up on line and they say a 3.7 gal. tank. The most i have ever put in it is 2.6 gal.(never had to use reserve yet) Now i am no way an expert but almost 4 gal!!!!! That tank just dont look that big. So can any of you that have a 450L help me and tell me the Gal. size and what is the reserve amount? I dont want to be out and about and run out.

According to it's owner's manual, the fuel tank on the 450GA is 3.4 gallon including reserve. I'd think the L tank is smaller.

EDIT- get yourself a 1 gallon fuel can...fill the tank, keep track of the miles to reserve, switch it over and then run it out.

After doing a quick Google search, the common capacity is slightly less than 3 gallons (and Wikipedia is way off - it lists the capacity for the newer GS500 for the GS450L).

I'll have to agree with Big D: fill up a gas can with exactly 1 gallon of gas and ride til you're empty. Fill up with that gas can and head straight to a gas station to top it off.

It should be pointed out though: it's sometimes impossible to get every bit of gas out of a tank. You might run out completely even though there's a quarter of a gallon left. The important thing to know is how far you can "normally" go with what you have available.
