Choke issue
I completely rebuilt the carbs on my 82 GS 1100 GL Z. It runs like a champ and idles well...Plenty of pick up and speed...However, when I leave the bike sitting for a week...even if I pull the choke all the way out...I have to crank and crank and crank until I can get the thing to sputter. Sometimes if I put in a little starting fluid I can get it to fire...If I have run the bike every few ,it has no issue starting...It will start right up, without using the choke, usually...I guess I have to pull the carbs again. I really cleaned those carbs, dipped them and cleaned every port, new everything in those carbs...So, I am at a loss for what to look for when I pull them and inspect them....Any suggestions?

Maybe you just need to put your petcock on prime for a couple seconds to refill the bowls after sitting. Make sure to flip it back to the on position and try to start it then. You could have had some fuel evaporation.https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9zH8w8Civs8ejBJWjdvYi1LNTg&resourcekey=0-hlJp0Yc4K_VN9g7Jyy4KQg&authuser=fussbucket_1%40msn.com&usp=drive_fs

Thats exactly whats happening..fuel evaporated out of the bowls. 30 seconds on PRIme, reset lever back to ON and start as usual.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Looks like you're in Arizona: Hot and dry. So the fuel probably evaporates out of the vent tubes quickly. You store it outside?

Outside or inside isnt a factor..both are darned hot and makes the fuel evaporate real quick. All my bikes do it and I have just gotten used to hitting the prime each time i switch them out. I ride one a few days and then go get out a different one so I am very familiar with the problem..HA HA.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

No, I store it inside...The garage is still hot as hades and everything else evaporates in this heat, why not the fuel?
Lesson Learned...For someone so smart, I can really be a dumb shI$ sometimes.

Hope the garage is vented in some way. Fuel fumes are bad to get trapped inside. Hot water heaters can spark a explosion if things get too concentrated for whatever reason. And the smell will seep into the house too in time.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Venting is not a problem...I don't have any gas where I live. When I moved in I called Southwest Gas about bringing a gas line to my house...They said the nearest line was about two blocks away...I live on the side of Lookout Mountain, and they told me it would cost me $750.00 per foot...I decided to pass.
