Ok my bad if it was already suggested, I was kind of speed reading and I didn't see it or the OP saying it was confirmed. I thought at 4-5k you'd be at part throttle which isn't that the needles job and the main jet only comes into play at 3/4 to full throttle?

All right, sounds great! I checked the float levels when I pulled the carbs off, they're within spec, I did have to adjust one though. Beyond that, I'll pull out the needle and take a look at that - I'm curious now to see if the stock one does have different clip positions.

I'll pass on the Dyno jet kit, $95 vs 15? I'll stick with just what I need for now. Maybe in the future when I can afford to replace the exhaust, I'll step up to a kit, but not now.

I've found another manual for the GS1000G, this one does look like it was made for my bike specifically - everything looks 'just right.' About to place my order, I'll keep checking in on this thread in case anyone else has recommendations or information - and I will update here once the new jets are in.

Beyond that, I think I've got a suitable understanding now of what I'm about to do. I'll be reading around to learn more on the subject for future reference, as I'd like to learn how to re-jet if I'm not using stock. I see some places have a "sliding scale" where if you go from stock exhaust to -x- exhaust, increase by x number, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. But again, I'm still looking around at this, so I suppose someone somewhere has discredited / confirmed this approach.

My sincere thanks to everyone involved! This is one task that was far beyond me, having never adjusted the jets before. Now I want to tear the carbs off the 850 and check those jets too... But maybe not, before the R/R melted it ran okay... Something to ponder. Thanks again everyone; if you all have more info or recommendations by all means let me know!

        Keep It Simple Stupid!!!!

If it's not broke don't fix it leave the GS850 alone and move onto other problems.

        Good luck with the 1000.

          Hah, fair enough!

I almost forgot, someone was asking for pics of the jets that I'd pulled: Left is Main - Right is Main Air

          And this is Pilot

EDIT: I had to find the answer to a problem elsewhere, but it looks like the BS30/96 jets are completely interchangeable with the jet w/ no holes. That one's resolved. Main jet, however, will it be okay if I go with a 112.5 rather than a 115? 115's are out of stock currently.
EDIT 2: Found the Main, Pilot, and Air jets from Niche-Supply on eBay. All have been ordered. The only difference will be the air jets, 175 as opposed to 170s.

I would try to get exactly what it calls for. That way there's no guessing. The main "might" run a little leaner than the factory which "might" cause problems since these were jetting lean from the factory so everyone says.... Those jets look like they might've been drilled, at least the air jet does.

Someone more experienced will chime in.

I've been able to confirm that - even the main jets, side by side with other 120's are way wrong... And I do agree - I'm actually going to go one size up from factory to a 117.5, as per recommendation made by a friendly ghost in the machine.

I've been able to place the order - but those air jets were hell to find... In fact, the only store that I can find is on eBay and they were out of stock on the one I needed, so I'm going to have to bore out a set of 155s to make them = 170s.

Aside from that little hiccup, all is going well!

For the folks who may need the Air Jets / Main Jets / Pilot Jets - z1 is great, and they're cheap, but they are currently out of stock of some jets... I found a great (though not 100% complete) set @ http://www.nichecycle.com/

Did you try jetsrus? I don't know the difference between them, but they list air jets for the BS30/97; does anyone know the difference between it and the BS30/96 listed by Call Me Ahab?

Sirius Consolidated is another one in Canada that can often get what you need, although the website isn't the most informative at times. They are responsive to email, or have been for me in the past.

Good to know - I keep a list of the vendors I use and what for, those are going in.

So far the folks at Niche-Supply have been pretty helpful, despite me screwing up the order (twice)
