2-1 exhaust for GS425?

The exhaust on my GS425 is rusty and heavy. For aesthetic and performance reasons, I would like to switch to 2-1. Any suggestions?

I know that MAC makes a kit. But I have also heard that it's crap. Is it? What other options are there?

The Mac exhaust pipes aren't too bad - their muffler is though. The headers are probably too large to have any performance gain as well.

But aside from Mac, you'll be looking at a custom exhaust. Pete has an awesome 2-1 scrambler setup.

Huh, is that true about the Mac set-up? I am also in the Fox Mustang world and although I could not use them in the past a lot of my road race friends love their exhaust products so I assumed the quality transitioned over.

On the carb and fuel thread there is a sticky for exhaust mods and re-jetting.

What's so bad about the MAC muffler? Any suggestions?

I'm not really trying to get much additional performance out of the bike. The exhaust is for aesthetic purposes. And I think it will sound better than the stock pipes.

it should be lighter, too. I would call that a performance improvement.

The can on some Mac systems is really cheap, non-renewable baffle, restrictive, overly quiet. I bought one years back. The header clears the oil filter cover and the drain plug. The Kerker I'm using covers both.

Is that the case with the MAC 2-1 for GS twins? I thought it said that the baffle is removable

They have different systems. Make sure you get one you'll like. Scrutinize the photos and specs

Midwest, I have a Mac system on my GS450. IIRC, they say "there is no need to remove the center stand to install our exhaust" which is partly true.....I could leave the center stand installed but couldn't put it down with the exhaust installed. So I cut out a section underneath after it had merged, and welded it back together - just needed an inch or two removed to clear the center stand.

As far as mufflers go, you'll need one for a 2" exhaust (a lot of the cheap universal mufflers are for smaller pipes). Supertrapp makes a 2" universal muffler though, which is what I have installed.

Wow. Sounds like a piece of sh*t. Doesn't allow the center stand to be used? Muffler is bad enough that it requires removal and the installation of a different muffler?

I'd rather buy some stainless mandrel-bent sections of pipe and build a custom exhaust. Thoughts? Any good places to buy the stainless pipe? Ideal diameter? What about getting the pipes to fit the exhaust collars?
