GS450 carbs

Now I confess I need to do tons of work on my carbs.

Needs to be rejetted to accommodate 2-in-1 exhaust and pods.
anyway....

It ran with quite some power on first test runs last Saturday.
Took her out for quick run this morning to check brakes and suspension, which is all OK (except front brake).

Today it had loads less power. All I changed was to add a clear inline fuel filter.
Could this affect the fuel delivery/power?

Carbs are all stock.

how long a 'test' run did you take her on? without rejetting her; on 'pod' filters and a 2-1 exhaust i would very wary about running her AT ALL; very lean carburetion equates to overheating; pre-ignition; killed spark plugs; holed pistons and damaged bores; i'd take out the plugs and inspect them; maybe you've been lucky and ruined these alone; whilst the plugs are out shine a torch down onto the piston crown and hope you espy healthy piston crowns with neither holes or damage; a wet and dry compression test will be indicative of piston ring; and valve/seat conditions; take a careful; honest look at the carburettor diaphragms; miniscule tears and holes will wreak havoc and in no way will she behave
as for the in line fuel filter is it fitted correctly; is it one way in;one way out;
my apologies for being so gloom laden; but get her sorted before she's ruined

Hi,

The wrong kind of inline fuel filter will starve your carbs. Use one that is for gravity fed fuel systems. Even then, it could be restrictive enough to cause fuel starvation. Most of us use no inline fuel filter, just a good screen on the petcock, a clean fuel tank, and clean carbs.
